Public Address from the Sackville Farmers' Market Board of Directors

To our vendors, members and the local community,

Each year, the Sackville Farmers’ Market must relocate from our summer home at the Bill Johnstone Memorial Park to a suitable winter location. The winter location has changed many times over the years, each time due to a variety of factors. Some factors are beyond the market’s control, others are grounded in the needs of our members (the vendors). The aim is always to find a location that is in the best interests of our members and the community we serve. Ultimately, a year-round venue for the market is our goal but until that is realized, all seasonal solutions are temporary.

Recently, concerns regarding the market’s actions have circulated through the community.

To clarify, members of the market Board of Directors with a perceived conflict of interest in this winter location search have recused themselves from the Board’s deliberations. The Board has established a location evaluation process to assess potential winter venues that takes into consideration proposed rental contracts and vendor and community input. Vendor and patron input was collected by means of a survey circulated at the market on Oct. 19th.

To allow for sufficient time to complete this evaluation process, the market will remain at the Bill Johnstone Memorial Park until Nov. 9th, 2024. An announcement as to the market's winter venue location for 2024-25 will be issued prior to the Nov 9, 2024, market day.

Thank you,
Sackville Farmers’ Market Board of Directors

I was not able to make it to fill the survey but I think it would be wonderful to consider the information center as a new winter venue.
